The Process at Austin Electronic Design & Development

So how will AEDD turn your product into reality?  It’s a pretty simple process really, and we do understand that it can be overwhelming or even intimidating if you are new to this.  But whatever your comfort level with creating an electronic based product, AEDD will be your partner throughout every step to keep you informed and up to date on what’s going on.

The first step is to get in touch with AEDD!  We’ll have a quick chat about what your product is or which services you want help with.  Often this is a good time to exchange any preliminary information or ideas you have, or some research you’ve done.  AEDD will always keep your information confidential and we will decide together when it is the right time to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

After we have determined what your needs are, AEDD will issue you a quote outlining the work that needs to be done, the cost of that work, and any other costs we can estimate at this time.   We try to be as accurate, inclusive, and thorough as we can be.  Sometimes though, things like the actual cost of a built circuit board are hard to estimate accurately because we haven’t done enough work to specify all the components.  That’s why we typically quote work in hours, on a not-to-exceed basis, and we only bill for the hours we actually work.  We are pretty good at accurately estimating the time it will take, but sometimes a quote may seem a little high.  If it does, let us know and we’ll go over our concerns and the basis for our numbers.  This is part of the trust be build with our partnership and allowing you to be confident that the work is being performed with the highest level of integrety.

When you are ready to get started, let us know.  New customers are typically asked for a 50% retainer up front while bank-and-trades are confirmed and credit is established.  We may also ask for a smaller retainer to cover any anticipated costs for development tools or proof-of-concept parts.  It usually just takes a Purchase Order and payment of any retainers and we are off and running!

Along the way, AEDD will keep you apprised of the progress on your project.  That helps us be accountable to you, and lets you know when to expect youre deliverables.

If you’ve asked us to build your boards for you, we’ll update the quotes for board costs and parts costs, and assembly as the design progresses.

Once we deliver what we promised, we’ll issue you a final invoice.  We know you’ll be so happy that you will already be planning your next development project with AEDD!
